Spring 2021 Letter from the Founder – Adaptability

Remodeling team South Berwick, York, Eliot, Kittery Maine Remodeling

One of the things that I’ve always loved about remodeling houses is the fact that you have to be able to adapt to a set of existing circumstances in order to create a successful end result.  That added layer of challenge, mixed in to the already complex craft of home building, forces more than its share of outside-the-box thinking and adaptability, both in conception and in construction.   There within, for me, lies part of its charm – remodeling is almost never boring, because no project is ever the same.  Each project brings its own innate set of built-in challenges, parameters, limitations, and possibilities, and our job at Great Northern is to take all of those elements into account in order to deliver innovative, beautiful, and lasting solutions.

In an odd way, I have found the pandemic has forced this same type of outside-the-box thinking on our society as a whole.  At a bare minimum, we have had to creatively adapt to whole new forms of communication, socializing, and entertainment, to say nothing of education, health care, or in many cases our livelihoods.  We have been so blessed at Great Northern to have remained healthy and working through this past year of uncertainty, but it has been anything but business as usual.  So many parts of our work that we used to take for granted are now oftentimes challenges which require extraordinary effort to bring about successful solutions.

Perhaps, in part, because of that very dynamic, this has been an especially stimulating time within Great Northern. Our team has not retreated back from these challenges, but instead taken on bigger projects and pursued new professional growth goals.  I have been fascinated to observe this renewed spirit of innovation within our team here as well as so many individuals, companies, and our society as a whole in response to Covid. I really feel as though we will emerge from the other end of this pandemic stronger, wiser, and more resilient as a people than we were before.  Successfully guiding our way through these times is my mission for all of us here at Great Northern, and my sincere hope for each of you.
