Lakefront Home Addition

This family has a wonderful getaway spot on Kennebec Pond in Lyman Maine. They reached out to Great Northern Builders to discuss the feasibility of making their getaway home a forever home where they could feel comfortable and safe once they were ready to retire.

Working with Len Bogh, the homeowners decided to expand the footprint of the home to allow for more living space and a larger primary bedroom.

In addition to expanding the main living space, a floor to ceiling stone fireplace was constructed to create a separation from the living area and the kitchen. The stonework in the fireplace included one really special stone. A stone from the owners full time residence was incorporated into the design as a way to bring a little piece of their long time residence with them into their forever home.

The kitchen was updated with all new cabinetry and appliances including a Viking range and vent hood. New hardwood flooring was installed to match the existing hardwood flooring already in place throughout the home.

The bathroom was expanded to include a low threshold shower entry.

Built in storage was incorporated throughout the spaces as well.

The scope of work also included an overhaul of the mechanical system to transition away from an oil burning furnace for heat and hot water. A new HVAC system incorporates mini split units throughout the home for heating and cooling.
