Great Northern Builders Takes Home Three Chrysalis Awards

South Berwick Design Build firm honored with Awards for a Dover, NH Universal Design Project

For Immediate Release

South Berwick, ME – Great Northern Builders announced today they were awarded three Chrysalis awards for a Universal design project completed in early 2021 in Dover, NH. The company was recognized in three categories: Whole Home Design, Master Bathroom, and Universal Design. These are the first Chrysalis awards for the South Berwick Design Build firm.

“Winning awards in multiple categories is difficult to do. Not only does this speak to their versatility, but to their commitment to quality on every aspect of the project,” says Ken Kanline, Director of the Awards. The Chrysalis Awards for Remodeling Excellence began in 1993. The awards cover 28 categories of residential and commercial remodeling, and winners are selected for each of four geographical regions of the country.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by the Chrysalis Awards Program for such a special project. This project was more than just a total home renovation, it was a complete redesign of what this space could be for the homeowner.” says Maya Bogh, President of Great Northern Builders “The Dover, NH home was built in 2015, with builder-grade finishes throughout. Upon taking ownership, the homeowner wanted to make the space their own with custom, upgraded finishes with a mid-century design style, but also wheelchair accessible. The homeowner had three priorities with this project – quality, style and accessibility.”

When asked about the project, the homeowner reported “I was interested in finding a contractor who had a reputation of providing very high quality of work with attention to details, of dependability, and of trustworthiness to complete my remodel project. I was looking for something much higher than simple “builder quality”. Two different Master Craftsmen that I know and trust included Great Northern Builders on their short lists of recommended contractors. I did my due diligence and thankfully selected GNB for the job.”

“The entire home needed to be re-imagined holistically from front to back to meet the future requirements of the homeowner. This complete home transformation follows a unity of design which can be described as clean, sleek, and mid-century modern while also keeping wheelchair accessibility in mind.” Says Lauren Skovland of Skovland Interiors, a Portsmouth NH based interior designer.

Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist, and Great Northern Builders Founder Len Bogh says “The thermostat for the fireplace, and the home in its entirety, is controlled using an AI smart home system named “Josh”. Josh is to the smart home what Siri is to the smartphone, and it is an amazing assistant to a homeowner who experiences limited mobility. The ability to easily manage lights, heat, even the blinds using only a voice command is a liberating feeling as completing even the most basic tasks becomes inherently more difficult in day-to-day movement.”

The project will be featured in an upcoming edition of Qualified Remodeler Magazine as a part of the awards package. The project is also featured as an entry to the 2021 Maine Parade of Homes virtual tour at maineparadeofhomes.com
