A Kitchen Re-Born

The owners of this home struggled with an outdated kitchen, little storage, and an ill-functioning floor plan. Through re-locating a basement staircase, and removing the wall between the kitchen and the sunroom, we were able to create a modern, storage-rich, and beautiful kitchen, offering an open view onto the back of the property, and flowing with the sunroom. Take a peek at this beauty!

Making Room for Mom & Dad

A husband, wife and children teamed up with her Mom & Dad to purchase a larger home to accommodate this multi-generational family. We helped them modify the newly purchased home to make everyone happy!

What made us feel wonderful at the end of this project was getting this testimonial from the customers: “We, The four of us … give you all the highest kudos for all aspects of the job you did for us. Most especially, we appreciate your responsiveness to our particular needs. That is, you listened to us, a rare thing these days. Your work was timely and professional. We are pleased with it all and have already recommended you to friends (ones we like, even)” – M.S., South Berwick, ME.

Friends raise $500K for library in South Berwick

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Friends of the South Berwick Library will hold an open house from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9, in conjunction with the South Berwick Public Library’s annual book fair.

The fair will be held in the Great Hall in the new library building at 27 Young St. The events will celebrate the Friends organization reaching the halfway mark in a $1 million capital campaign for the new library.

“Several recent gifts and pledges have put us over $500,000,” said Patti Mitchem, president of the Friends.

Mitchem said the Friends were especially pleased to reach $500,000 because a $20,000 grant awarded by the Davis Family Foundation in 2010 was contingent upon reaching that benchmark.

In addition to donations made by residents, several local businesses have made significant donations to the project in the belief that a vibrant library creates a better community for business.

Deb DeColfmacker, financial adviser at Edward Jones, pledged $6,000 to the Friends’ building fund.

“Although my husband, Gary, and I do not live in South Berwick, I do earn my living in this wonderful town and we believe it is important that we give back to the community,” DeColfmacker said. “A library is a place that is open and inviting to everyone.”

Chris Donahue, president of Spray Maine Inc., commutes to South Berwick from Massachusetts and decided that, as a businessman in town, he wanted to support the project. He donated $1,500.

“A library is an integral and important part of every community,” Donahue said. “I’m happy to support the construction of this new facility.”

Great Northern Builders, a home design and construction company owned by Len and Maya Bogh, has pledged $5,000 over five years.

The Boghs believe “building a good library makes sense for a community that wants to stay strong.”

The Open House will be an opportunity for visitors to view the ongoing transformation of the former Saint Michael’s Catholic Church sanctuary into a library. Currently, library services are being offered in the small addition to the building while the Great Hall is under construction.

The library moved in March from the historic Jewett Eastman House on Portland Street to the former church on Young Street.

Library Director Karen Eger noted this is the first year the Friends’ popular book sale, which supports the purchase of books, equipment and programs for the library, can be scheduled rain or shine.

“In the past, the book sale was held out on the sidewalk in front of the old library, so we’re delighted that they can use the Great Hall this year,” she said. “I think people will be pleased to see how beautiful the main area looks, even though there’s still a lot to be done.”
